Hélène Carbonnel, a young designer specialising in the audio-visual sector, is a 27-year-old Parisian who has created two films for Gellé Frères. Both inspired and inspiring, it was impossible for us not to include Hélène amongst the Gellé Frères Queens! So, our Beauty Team interviewed her to find out more about her background, personality and her certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ which makes her so bubbly!
Hello Hélène! To start off with, could you tell us more about your background and your current line of work?
I started out by taking up a specialised course in Contemporary History at the University of the Sorbonne. After earning my Master’s degree, I worked as a researcher for a cultural association. After that, I worked at the Théatre de La Commune, and later at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal. At the end of 2015, I decided to go back to studying and specialise in the audio-visual field. I now work freelance and create corporate documentaries, including for Arte Radio. I also work with some brands, including Gellé Frères, creating films for special events.
According to you, which three words best describe the Gellé Frères’s ethos?
I immediately think of “Light-heartedness,” because Gellé Frères inspires a certain cheerfulness through its boutique and products. I also think of “Playfulness,” as for me, there is a sense of studied nonchalance. And lastly, there is a certain uninhibited “Femininity.”
How would you define a “Queen 2.0?”
Modern-day Queens are women who are free, independent and make their own choices. It’s funny, but I realise I’m surrounded every day by 2.0 Queens! I’m thinking specifically of my friends. Each one has her own personality and essence. They provide me with lots of inspiration!
When was the last time you felt like a Queen?
Recently, the Maison de la Poésie showed a report which I made for Arte Radio and which was about the creeping gentrification of Paris’s 18th arrondissement. I was recognised and congratulated for my work. I’ll never forget that!
And using Gellé Frères’s technique, which Queen are you? Does that really represent you and what do you think of the recommended perfume?
I’m the artist Queen, which I don’t find surprising in the least bit! I am inspired by everything around me and I’m always creating something! I’m forever ‘unruly’ and always think outside the box. I really love the ‘Magnolia Bohème’ fragrance! It’s fresh, mild and spring-like all at once! It’s a real favourite of mine!
